SATS KS1

Dts are in y2, and I get the distinct impression the school are ramping up the trading for SATS. There was a week of tests last week - I'm guessing some kind of practice.

What exactly do SATS mean at this age, does it have any impact on the future? Do I need to be getting them to practice papers, which I really don't want to do, they're way to young imo or can I just ignore the whole thing and let them get on with it.

Just ignore and let the school get on with it!

The KS1 SATs have very little impact on their future. The tests aren’t the whole story, as the end of year result can include other classroom work.

The results at end of Y2 do put a marker in the sand, and progress will be measured based on baseline assessment or end of EYFS (not sure which, maybe both) to see whether the child is making expected progress. This will happen again at end of Y6. This is more a measure of the school’s teaching than of the child.

I definitely wouldn’t start them on practice papers unless the teacher provides any as homework. Also, if the school are pushing the SATs to the children and yours are getting worried, be reassuring and explain they’re to check that the school is doing a good job, and that they are nothing to worry about.
