4 letter word struggle

For the last few weeks my daughter who is nearly 5's class has been getting 4 letter spelling words like look, just and have. She just doesn't remember how to spell any of them and they get 3 words a week. She is fine with cvc words and common 2 and 3 letter words but just cant seem to remember any 4 letter ones....even if they spell out phonetically she cant do them. I'm worried the rest of the class is zooming ahead of her. Any tips for bigger words?

What I find works really well with my daughter (who's 5, nearly 6) was to write them on a piece of paper in clear, largish writing and then stick them around the house. One on the fridge, the window, in the bathroom, in her bedroom etc. Do it when she's at school so she doesn't know where they are, then make a game of finding the words and spelling them. Every time she sees a word she must read it. Keep testing her on the words and she will remember. I wrote down 'children' on Saturday for my daughter and today she can spell it correctly 😁😁

Is your daughter 4 years old? If so, I really wouldn’t worry. I am surprised they are getting spellings at that age. In our school they don’t get spellings until year one

Thanks for the ideas allypally....I will definitely try putting words round the house she would probably find a hunt quite fun.

Youre right owletterocks she is still very young. We are in Scotland and she is the youngest in her class because the cut off here is the end of Feb. So far shes kept up with the older ones fine but just worried now because she just cant get longer words into her head at all. Hopefuly nothing to worry about but just dont want her falling way behind.

Should say they do a spelling test every week. Poor kids lol

Seems crazy early to me for spelling tests. Dd1 is 6 nearly 7 & in yr2 and only started with spelling tests in Sept.
I concur with a previous poster writing them out seems to help in our house too. Also practising in the car, walking along the road. Lots of repetition & lots of reading to broaden vocabulary.

We do exactly what allypally suggests and it works like a charm. Even my three year old can spell most of these words now Wink
