My twins are in reception and wearing their Clarks pair from September, the reinforced toe ones. They are very physical girls who run all the time and climb everything and these shoes still look good.

bangingmyheadoffabrickwall · 21/01/2018 21:51

Only ever used Clarks for school shoes. What the hell do your kids do with them?!??!? Seriously?

We go through two pairs a year but ONLY because his feet grow!

Having said that, I LOVE Dr. Martens. They seem very strong and 6 months down the line still look brand new.

thismeansnothing · 21/01/2018 21:58

Mines still in the same pair. They are made by petasil

jennymac31 · 21/01/2018 22:05

M&S scuff resistance shoes have lasted my daughter since the school year started and there is still tons of wear in them so I would highly recommend them.

Ilikesweetpeas · 21/01/2018 22:08

Geox, ricotta and petasil have all lasted DD a full school year. A bit pricy initially but not when averaged out over the year!

clary · 22/01/2018 00:35

wow, even footie-playing DS2 manages to make his last a year - or until they are outgrown.

DD has some doc martens, they were ££ (like, £100) but look really nice and totally like new (got them in sept and she wears them at the weekend too).

Might be cheaper for smaller sizes? (DD is 16 and wears a 4 in DMs).

clary · 22/01/2018 00:41

Meant to add, before she got the DMs, DD had the same pair of Clarks shoes (her feet have stopped growing yay!) for two years! They looked fine. But she just walks, doesn't do anything sporty or physical in them.

notgivingin789 · 22/01/2018 10:57

DS has DR Martens. Only because I'm a DM fan Grin. But seriously, he went through Kickers, John Lewis, Asda, Clarks...those shoes only lasted for 5 months ! DS DR martins have lasted for a year now.

I usually buy Ricosta school shoes for my children. I bought a pair from M&S in October for my 7 year old as a temporary measure and they have been great. They are absolutely immaculate. Will definitely buy from M&S again.

sallythesheep73 · 22/01/2018 14:01

We love these

chipmunksfootwear.co.uk/

Good for wide feet and very reasonable and hard wearing.

My daughter is pretty good with her shoes and one Clarks pair fell apart in 3 days and it took 4 months of arguing to get a refund!!

TeenTimesTwo · 22/01/2018 14:13

We find Startrite very good for my DD.
They always last until outgrown which, at times, is 15months+.

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 22/01/2018 14:15

My daughter has her clarks pair since September they are still in perfect condition.

SimultaneousEquation · 22/01/2018 16:53

I am clearly very lucky as I have 3 dc who have always got a whole school year out of their shoes. Startrite for the boys and kickers for dd as we can’t be doing with silly frilly strappy things with delicate soles.

MissT84 · 22/01/2018 19:30

2nd pair.

both mine had a new pair over christmas....but my ds (9) had his a term before summer hols (so lasted 2 terms). My dd (6) got new in september and wore through the sole to the lights within a term. Both bought from asda (£12/£15ish a pair). Asda didnt have any theer sizes over xmas, so they now have clarks/kangol and I am not impressed at those brands.... asda is so much softer and better made than these pairs.

They walk over a mile to school and home again so I dont mind buying new after a term as they go through a lot of wear.

Elocutioner · 22/01/2018 19:35

Same ones, but DC wear indoor and outdoor shoes in the winter which saves the leather.

Madcats · 22/01/2018 21:24

I honestly think that some children must float on air/not walk anywhere/not run around/climb trees.

I usually buy in the Startrite sales (Angry Angel for the larger sizes seem more robust) but I expect those shoes to last a matter of a few months before the soles get too thin/we outgrow. Bizarrely patent leather used to look better for longer.

When DD was about 7, I discovered a South African brand called Toughees and they used to look pretty good for at least a term, sometimes longer. They are still sold under this name on Amazon (used to be able to get some bargains), but their website in the UK is now
newbrandslimited.co.uk/ and they are called Term Shoes (no idea why they changed...but I definitely recognise come of the styles).

Primigis and Petasils seemed nice (think we outgrew those), and we are currently wearing some GEOX.

snowbellj · 26/01/2018 09:54

My dc usually get a school year out of their Clark's shoes. We have discovered a hole in the bottom of Ds' school shoes, so he will have new ones this weekend.
Dd (15) has had her school shoes for 2.5yrs, so definitely needs new ones too.

Mol1628 · 26/01/2018 09:59

Still wearing his startrite shoes. They’re scuffed but otherwise still strong and sturdy.
He walks to and from school every day, 10/15 minutes and does a lot of running around so he’s not particularly light on them.
I know people who have got shoes from shoe zone and they only lasted till the first half term holidays. Yes I spent £40 on his shoes but they’ve been worth it.

reluctantbrit · 26/01/2018 11:47

Scuffed shoes are still worn by DD unless the leather is ripped. It just gets polished more frequently.

We normally bought Ricosta and Ecco, full sizes, not 1/2 ones so they last longer until too small. I think in the 6 years so far we had 2 which had to be replaced earlier than they were too small.

She now has a pair of Start rite with a toe guard. They look nice and are also quite soft, which is our problem with the standard Start rite and Clarkes ones. Unless she grows again I hope they will last until Summer.

Oly5 · 26/01/2018 11:53

Clark’s shoes
They last all year!!
But I’ve also found M&S very good

Geox here, still look pretty much like new despite the fact that DS (5) puts his foot down instead of using the break on his scooter 🙄

The girls Clarkes shoes we got in September were awful. We have always used Clarkes for primary so couldn't believe how terrible they were. The soles were so much thinner than previous years that my daughters feet ached. I hope Clarkes go back to how they were before this school year. We tried so many pairs after and eventually settled on Sketchers. They are really cushioned and sturdy looking for 'girls' shoes. We usually have to but 2 or 3 pairs each year due to wear and growth.

The boys Clarkes ones were always ok and we probably bought 2 pairs each school year. Now we buy Nike Air trainers for secondary school. Not meant to but have got away with it until now. Expensive at £100, 3 times a year though but loads of walking so they soon wear out and apparently very comfortable !

rka2017 · 26/01/2018 13:36

bought clarks gloforms shoes lasted for whole year when compare to supermarket brands.
