Reading/Spelling Ages...

I do appreciate these tests are very blunt tools. Could any teachers (or anyone who has experienced similar) advise whether it would be a cause for concern if a child didn't increase their reading/spelling age over the course of two plus years? With the possibly crucial additional information that they are still ahead of their chronological age, just not as much as before. Did they just grasp the mechanics early? Peaked too soon?! Many thanks!

Not a teacher, but has ds who scored very high reading(decoding) age at the beginning of reception. He hasn't taken test since, so I am only assuming, but I don't expect it to be so much increase after years, or even any tbh.
And I think yes, he has grasped mechanics early, but I don't think he's peaked too soon, it's still ahead his age, and progressing in different way from what I can see. (Still can read any words, or spell any words, but his progress is more in depth, rather than technical reading/ spelling.)

Would be useful to know age of your child OP. My DS reading age was on a steady standard trajectory, however from end Yr2 into Y4, his spelling ability didn't really improve. It was one of the first indicators to us that he could have dyslexic tendencies. Dyslexia is not all about being able to read, but also tied into processing speed and skill. We had a kid who could read a word but 10 seconds later struggle to spell or even copy the same word onto paper. When he was younger than that, the kids just seemed to progress in bursts, suddenly just getting reading, writing etc and then improving from there. Year 3 is considered to be a year where kids can take a back seat and not seem to progress so quickly though.
