not mine.

Nor mine. Seems silly. It would be so easy to get everyone's online address and send out info letters that way.

NotQuiteCockney · 23/04/2007 14:20

Mine does, and quite competantly, but I am going to have to patiently introduce them to the idea of bccing (so far, at least, nobody has done 'reply all')

Earlybird · 23/04/2007 14:21

Ours doesn't either. They tried circulating the newsletter by email for a bit, but too many complained so school has reverted to printed newsletters in the book bag.

Class reps email/text to communicate with other parents.

Tommy · 23/04/2007 14:26

I am a school governor and we all communicate by email but, so far, the school doesn't with parents.

It is a good idea though - would save paper which probably just goes in the bin most of the time anyway!

ours dosen't

iota · 23/04/2007 14:29

what would you do about parents who don't have email? How would they get their information?

Spidermama · 23/04/2007 14:30

I'm fed up with fishing soggy outdated information sheets out of my kids school bags. I'd much rather have it in email form. I'm not sure if everyone has pcs though, but surely it's just a handful who don't and they could still get the paper version.

It seems so wasteful when you consider all the pupils in all the schools and all the sheets of paper going home in all the schoolbags.

NormaStanleyfletcher · 23/04/2007 14:30

I wish mine would

portonovo · 23/04/2007 14:39

Primary school doesn't, but secondary school has a list for parents who want the fortnightly newsletter by email.

Schools still need to do paper though, because lots of parents don't have email.

NotQuiteCockney · 23/04/2007 15:25

Oh, we still get information in the homework books, and in the newsletter. We get emails for school-wide things like parking problems.

Oh, and I can email my son's teacher, which is very helpful - if I am sending someone new to do the pickup, I just email her a picture, which is much easier than any other way.

wangle99 · 23/04/2007 21:56

DD's school email the newsletter every Tuesday, they trialled it last term and it worked.

I find it fantastic having the ability to email the school and get replies that way, much more efficient than phoning up!

swedishmum · 23/04/2007 22:03

At dc's old school you could sign up for email. Problem was the paper version used to come home too x3. Maybe by now it would be better to sign up for paper version and get email by default. At least it would actually get the information home.

jomist · 23/04/2007 22:07

Parents can use email to contact school, but newletters are still sent home with kids. They also have a text system for emergency messages...like 1 snow flake fell, come get your kids quick!

newgirl · 24/04/2007 19:35

our school asked all parents last term and some said they did not have email, so we are sticking with paper - fair enough I guess until everyone is the same?

UtterPigsty · 24/04/2007 19:37

I SO want ours to
have bene nagging ofr FOUR years.

ceolas · 24/04/2007 19:43

From an ecological point of view if nothing else, I think they should be obliged.

unknownrebelbang · 24/04/2007 19:44

Secondary does. Primary doesn't.

Hmmm, could start a campaign......

islandofsodor · 24/04/2007 22:51

I used to think this was a good idea but at least I can usually be guaranteed to fet paper stuff (though dd has managed to lose hers somehow).

With email you are reliant on people logging on every day which sometimes I don't or if you have computer problems or something.

RustyBear · 25/04/2007 00:05

We offer an email version (Junior school) but not many have taken it up - about 10% I'd guess, which is quite suprising as we're in a very computer-literate area.

hana · 25/04/2007 00:07

ours does - you have to opt into it, but still get paper copies of everything

MrsSpoon · 25/04/2007 00:19

DS1's School ask for your email address and then never send you anything.

nappyaddict · 25/04/2007 04:02

at my school there was a list of parents who wanted stuff by email. the rest got a paper copy.
