How does your primary manage pick-up time?

As in, how do the school ensure the pupils leave with the appropriate adult?

Is there an age when pupils are expected to be old enough and sensible enough to only leave when they see their adult and to return if they're mistaken?

Our school currently has the policy of Y1s spotting their adult through the window and going out to them, unfortunately this has resulted with some overenthusiastic/impatient Y1s running out when their adult has not been there to collect them.

I am surprised how regulated many of these schools are. Given how many children go on playdates with other children everyday at our school it must be a real faff for many of these schools to keep up with who is picking up who.

I'm not in the UK.

90% of kids get the bus to school.

Reception and Y1, kids handed over to an adult the child recognised, and taken to the bus.

Y2 (so aged 6 plus) dismissed from classroom, and allowed to find their own bus. The school has approx 3000 kids, so it is a busy place.

We stand at the door until all children (P2) have gone - either picked up or walked home. Any child who isn't picked up within 5 minutes sits outside the office until parent appears.
