Learning American spellings

Hello,
Was wondering if someone could advice me whether it is normal for Year 5 to learn American spellings as part of their spelling list eg licence and then also license?!

No definitely not normal.

They're not. One is a noun and one is a verb.

Stuff that for a game of soldiers.

It's called English for a reason.

Licence is a noun (I got my driving licence)
License is a verb (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency)

Are they not just learning the verb and the noun? Verb = license, noun = verb.

It's like practise (verb) and practice (noun).

As Wolfie said above one is a noun and one is a verb. They will also learn that they are homophones.

Oh, I hate these! It's so confusing for foreigner like me. I have to remember now, ce = noun and se = verb. Great thread for me, thanks!

And all on the Year 5/6 curriculum - as English words.

In that case, I am even more grateful for this thread. Potentially prevented me from embarrassing myself in case yr5 ds asked me.
