TA on Twitter - message about kids

bearthebaby · 26/11/2017 07:45

So I woke up this morning to a wassap morning message with a screenshot of a twitter message from my child's former TA that was made at a time when my child was having problems in the class and the school weren't dealing with it. Meetings with head about the TA.

The friend sent me this as gossip and fun but the tweet has wound me up and made me question if she is supposed to tweet.

Anyway looking back over my diary I realised the tweet was on the same day as the incident I complained about, the meeting with the head was scheduled the day after. The tweet says 'ugh others people's children. Sometimes wonder why I work with them'. So obviously aimed at this incident which had involved a number of children that day.

Her profile on twitter is open so I could go and find it. How could she be so rude and stupid?! Not to mention offensive and unprofessional? Do TAs have the same duty as teachers to be careful of what they put in social media?

I'm obviously annoyed as my child was caught up in something this day which was later dealt with by the head. But she has tweeted this vague ugh tweet about children she works with every day!!!

Send the screenshot to the Head - she needs to be reprimanded. Absolutely unacceptable.

Then tell your friend to stop looking at her twitter, it’s never going to end well.

Wellthen · 26/11/2017 08:00

The Head obviously not a the I lead.

user789653241 · 26/11/2017 08:06

Don't know, tbh. Is this something easily accessible/identifiable for the parents of the children this person is involved?
If so, then I think you are right to be annoyed, but if not, they should have freedom to express their feelings if they wanted to. You say it's vague, so I am not really sure.

NoSquirrels · 26/11/2017 08:12

Well, she's stupid, that's for sure.

It's vague though, so not really a hanging offence but deeply unprofessional and paints her in a bad light.

School should be informed in order to tell her to protect her account- it shouldn't be open, it's asking for trouble. Presumably they have a social media policy which will form part of her contract- if not they should have.

MaisyPops · 26/11/2017 08:16

Her account shouldn't be open for her own safety if it's a personal account. because quite clearly some parents are stalking her online

However it's not identifying. No different to me hypothetically puttinf something like 'i need friday after this week. I think we should refuse to mark any mocks missing capital letters. Grrr.'

Fattymcfaterson · 26/11/2017 08:59

It's not obviously aimed at anything Confused

bearthebaby · 26/11/2017 10:10

The person who sent the screenshot to e follows and is followed ack by the TA. But then open when I stalked 😁My child as left the school so really it's historical and none of my business now. And I wish I had seen it at the time.

Yes it's vague not mentioning any child's name but explicit in another sense. It's says 'urgh other people's kids! I often wonder why I work with them.'

'urgh other people's kids! I often wonder why I work with them.'

I think it's totally understandable teachers/ta feels that way sometimes, don't you think? Especially expressing in private environment.
That doesn't mean they hate their job and feeling this way all the time.

NoSquirrels · 26/11/2017 10:24

Especially expressing in private environment.

Pointis, Twitter is not "a private environment". It's public.

I sympathise with teachers and TA's saying "urgh, other people's kids" - we all feel like that surely? But any professional who works with "other people's kids" should know better than to say something negative on social media.

Appuskidu · 26/11/2017 10:27

When was the tweet from?

AppleKatie · 26/11/2017 10:38

It's obviously not a great thing for a TA to be saying publically and I think the school should speak to her about the image of the school she is presenting online.

BUT I think you need to retain perspective on it. She didn't name your child, or the school, or give details of anything that happened whilst she was at work. It's 'obvious' to you what it's about but not possible for anyone to be certain and certainly doesn't infringe on your child's confidentiality.

Gazelda · 26/11/2017 10:56

I agree that this was ill considered of the TA.
But I'm flabbergasted that your friend has searched back through the TAs tweets to stir this up.
When did the incident happen?
and why are there so many TA critical threads around at the moment?

DamnDeDoubtanceIsSpartacus · 26/11/2017 11:00

It's fairly innocuous. She shouldn't have said it but I would just leave it be.

Ta's work bloody hard for very little money.

Appuskidu · 26/11/2017 12:08

But I'm flabbergasted that your friend has searched back through the TAs tweets to stir this up

That is what stood out for me, too!

KittyVonCatsington · 26/11/2017 12:12

Sounds like you are your friend quite like the drama of gossiping about this, OP.

TheFirstMrsDV · 26/11/2017 12:16

Never ceases to amaze me how stupid people are online.
You see it a lot on MN.
Teachers, TAs, HCAs and Nurses describing recent events at work and then getting all snarky when they are pulled on it.
The Nursing and Midwifery guidelines are VERY clear. You do NOT discuss patients online. Doesn't matter if you don't mention names and change a few details. If someone thinks they recognise themselves or a loved one you can lose your registration.

My contract is similar so I would assume most people's are.

In this case the TA has acted like a fool but has been very vague. The could still face disciplinary action if someone really wanted to stick it to them.
But your mate is stirring stuff up. I had one like that. She was always screenshoting stuff my DC's birth family had said about me. She couldn't understand why I prefered to ignore it all. She was all about the dramaz

AlexanderHamilton · 26/11/2017 12:20

I think you should complain. The comment was made the same day as an incident involving your child. Anyone reading it on that day who knew about the incident would know exactly what it referred to. Very unprofessional.

bearthebaby · 26/11/2017 14:19

Sounds like you are your friend quite like the drama of gossiping about this, OP.

Er, no! I didn't ask for the teacher to act unprofessionally that day, which had to be dealt with by the headteacher and resulted in TA attending further training . Nor did I enjoy finding out she had Posted online about the fact that she clearly doesn't lie working with other people's (my) children.

My friend is to blame too(she's a friend of the TAtoo) and I would rather have not known. So nope, not enjoyable.

OP posts:
bearthebaby · 26/11/2017 14:20

My friend had been having a hard time at second school and hates teachers so was looking for examples of making practice just to bitch I guess.but that's another issue Grin

OP posts:
bearthebaby · 26/11/2017 14:22

And the tweet was from May of this year and my child left in July.

OP posts:
BubblesBuddy · 26/11/2017 14:40

You have left the school. Let it rest. Sounds like a vendetta to me.

Council · 26/11/2017 14:42

I work in school and have lots of ex colleagues as FB friends. My feed is full of memes about how revolting children are.

I don't love it and wouldn't post it myself, but if you want every member of school staff who's every posted similar disciplined, we really will have a recruitment problem.

The main thing is how well (or not) they dealt with you specific issue, but not even that really, as your child has now left the school.

user789653241 · 26/11/2017 14:48

Sounds like your friend is more unprofessional one than the TA, tbh.

MaisyPops · 26/11/2017 14:57

And how are you aware of staff CPD and development? Is this from the friend again or are the school unprofessional and disclose staff information to parents!

She didn't say 'I hate working with so and so's child'. She's had a day at work where she's said she finds working with other people's children a pain. It wasn't the most sensible thing to post without checking her privacy settings but dear me I know loads of people in all sorts of jobs who've posted things like 'thank fuck it's Friday. It's been a long one'.

Anyone who has worked in a school has had days where dealing with other people's children is an absolute pain in the backside.

It all feels a little to drama llama to me.

MaisyPops · 26/11/2017 14:59

council
I've seen some hilarious ones shared or screen grabs from parody accounts saying things like 'when SLT give you a list of priorities...' / 'when the glue sticks arrive'.
Some people have shared ones worryingly close to what's going on in the school we worked in, but hey it's been shared thousands of times because it's typical of schools/children.
