Doctor's appointment- taking children out of school during the day

Hi, DD in year 1 was given a lunch time doctor's appointment with a specialist, has been waiting for this appointment since April; would you know if I can take her out of school for an hour and drop her back at school after the appointment ? So she does not miss her lessons. I've left a message with her teacher asking if this would be ok, have not heard back, would the school release her for a hour in the middle of a teaching day? Is this the done thing..? Thanks~

Very normal and we would ask you to so this rather than (as some parents try to do) just keep her off all day. Tell the school in advance rather than on the day and let them have a copy of the letter. Tell them what time you will be collecting and tell them that you will bring her back after the appointment. If the appointment overruns and you can't bring her back before the end of the afternoon session they will also appreciate a call to let them know IF that is possible.

Also, its is the office staff you should talk to about this sort of thing. Teachers a) don't always know the administrative rules/systems and b) often have so much going with 30 children etc that they easily forget to pass messages on to the office....
