Helping your reception child complete written homework without the meltowns

My son started reception this September and every time it comes to the once a week written homework he has a melt down and says his writing his 'rubbish'. He's very active and loves being outside, riding his bike. But has never really liked drawing or writing. Please help because I really want to help him and any advice would be brilliant. Thank you

Also are there ways to make it fun?

We do my DS homework spelling practice on magnadoodle as he finds it more fun...

No homework in YrR at our school - only 10 min daily reading

I'm another one a bit surprised at the homework - DD has just started a state primary known for being academically focussed, but all she's had so far are books for me to read to her - apparently they'll start getting books to 'read' to us after half term. I'm really relieved that they haven't started any more intensely. Ironically, DD would probably give written homework a good go, but she's absolutely exhausted after school (and not attending full time yet). If she was having meltdowns over the homework, I think I'd be discussing that with her teacher.

Let the teacher know what is going on. He shouldn't be feeling that sort of pressure aged 4. I would back right off the homework for now. There is absolutely nothing to be gained by continuing with a situation like this. Reading and writing is not a race or a competition and different kids are ready to progress at different stages. Now is clearly to the right time for him.

My dd hasn't been given any homework yet, except for books for me to read to her. From what I can work out, they haven't started doing any reading at school yet
