Is this a weird thing to offer to do for the class teacher?

DC in year one and the teacher mentioned she changes the reading books three times a week during her lunch hour (no TA in the class). I work part time and can give an hour one of those days to change the books for her, would she think this was odd? I'd like to help in some way but don't want to do PTA or go into the classroom!

Thanks!

I think they'd probably love that.

I'd bite your hand off.

I think the teacher should appreciate you offering to do that OP.

SparklyMagpie · 02/10/2017 18:07

I don't think thats weird and I think it's lovely Smile

Something I could see me offering to do

GreenTulips · 02/10/2017 18:08

Yes do it! Give the woman a hand - parents don't appreciate how time consuming the little things are

Fannyfannakerpants · 02/10/2017 18:09

Do it. We need more parents like you. I'm sure she would be incredibly grateful.

Another one here that would totally bite your hand off

Wonderful! I'm currently teaching cycling with the aid of a wonderful bunch of parents. Some are helping every session, some are just doing one. Every little helps! Gives me a chance to get to know them a bit too.

Not weird as it's a job some schools (including DS's) do ask parents helpers to do.

The school may though want you do do a CRB check.

Balfe · 02/10/2017 18:52

Your school may have a policy about parent helpers not being involved with their own child's class.

But I'd bite your hand off Grin

Thank you everyone, feel a lot more confident offering now!

I'd think you were an absolute angel! Parents who offere help (however much) are absolute saviours.

Teachers might have seemed like 'ogres' (and in my school days in the '40s and '50s maybe some were!) but nowadays they really are only 'ordinary' people - so have no fears.

And parents who have any special skills - sports, arts & crafts, drama, music, gardening, (make the photocopier work) - can also contribute a lot to school life.

As a former teacher I think it's a lovely thing to offer. I help out at my DDs school as often as I can.,When I was a DHT I had one parent who asked me to come in and do photocopying/admin for 5 hours a week, having worked in an office before having her children. It saved the teachers using their lunch hour to do such things and was greatly appreciated.
