Dear Mums,
I am not a native english speaker and this means the love of reading books and novels by my daughter has not been blossomed in her naturally.
I am a single mum and curruntly dealing with so many changes to adjust my life recently.
but i always had one dream that I could find somebody to help my daughter who she can read books and recommend good books to her or vice versa in a weekly bases and progress it more.
somebody locally in Hale area preferably. I can not pay a private tutor fee but a small amount.
I remember when we had to read War Horse we needed to keep looking into dictionary so many times which though it was good and helpful but it wasn't encouraging enough to pick up another book after.
I would be grateful if anybody out there to help.

Many thanks

Sorry I'm not anywhere near you but didn't want to read and run. Have you tried your local library? They may have literacy sessions which you could use. If not there will probably be an adult reading group and one of the members may be able to read with your daughter.
War Horse is not an easy book to read so don't be put off by it. Just start with books meant for younger children and build your vocabulary that way.

I am not a native English speaker either, but my ds's reading is excellent.
I haven't really read him bed time story either. (Not common thing in my culture, I don't have any experience of my parents reading books to me.)

I love reading, and read all the time, have books in my bag and read if I have a minute. He naturally copied what I do.
So, I don't think parents being foreigner prevents children to learn to love reading.

If reading English book is hard for you, reading children's books with your dd is great. They are not hard to understand, and can easily have conversation about it.

Even you work full time and very busy, I'm sure you can find 5 minutes a day to enjoy books together.
It's great if you can find somebody to help her once a week, but I think it's way better to do 5 minutes a day, every day.

There are many ways to get lots of books without paying fortune in England, even if you can't go to library regularly.
We got many books from charity shops, book people website, car boot sales, etc.

If you get a kindle or similar, there's a function where you hold your finger on an unknown word and a definition pops up on the screen. This might make dealing with unknown language
Easier.

Have you thought of audio books? I've just had a look on eBay and there's War Horse on there for £5.99, or maybe see what your library has to borrow.

I agree with Keira.
I've bought my ds electronic dictionary that he can look up unknown words easily.
Because I am not a native, I can't always tell him what the word mean instantly. But looking up on real dictionary is quite disrupting and taking away the pleasure in readin.
But the use of the electronic one made it a lot easier, and the description of meaning of word is not easy to understand, he can easily find similar meaning word by pressing thesaurus function button.
I bought it when he was about 4, but still he keeps by his side aged 9.

Many thanks for showing so much support.
I bought her a kindle , only last for a couple. She gets carried away with Audio books. She needs human interaction so when she comes across the words and given some other samples/sentences make the words more meaningful to her.
I very much agree with the 5 minutes approach. I will give it a go.
still would like to find somebody native with a little free time.
Will talk to the library! nice one .
take care all
