Dyscalculia

Hi

My dd is in year 5 and has always struggled with maths. Her teacher last year said he thinks she has Dyscalculia but didn't really elaborate on whether they could formally test her for this.

How would I go about getting a formal diagnosis of this and if I do is there any kind of support available?

She also really struggles with her handwriting, could this be connected?

Thanks

We paid for a private assessment with an educational psychologist for my DS. I suspected dyslexia which was confirmed, but he was also diagnosed with dyscalculia which I had never heard of previously. There are some good books on it with practical advice and activities, though many are geared at slightly older children, which left me not really knowing what to do with my KS1 DS. I've found it harder as a parent to tackle it compared to the dyslexia as it seems less well researched and understood. Good luck!

Thanks for replying.

There does seem to be very little information and techniques for helping.

She seems to need lots and lots of repetition but just when you think she's grasped something she seems to forget it again.
