Squeebles spelling test app, anyone use this?

My DD has just entered year 2 and they have started sending spellings home to learn. These then need to be used in a sentence in a quiz on Fridays.
Last week we had 5 words to spell, this week there is 8 so I was looking for an interesting way for DD to do her spellings instead of only writing them down on paper to practice.

I stumbled across the app squeebles, looks good, from what I can gather the parent users their voice to input the spelling words and then the app uses this data to test the child.
I think the app also can generate pre made tests and a mini game?

Anyone used this app?
Is it any good?

Thanks

The squeebles maths apps are great but we couldn't get the spelling one to work. This was a while ago though so hopefully it has improved.

We use it for precisely that - I record the words and DD (also Y2) does the tests; usually in the back of the car going to or from school.

I would recommend the maths apps too - particularly the maths race where you can compete against someone else but set the questions at different levels. I have never had any problems using it and we have it had for at least two/ three years.

Following as interested in the answers you'll get!

DS has used Squeebles Addition&Subtraction, and Squeebles TimesTables apps. The first was good for getting some additional practice, achieving fluency and speed. The second is great as a tool to support memorisation (but does nothing for understanding multiplication).

Y3 now, and up to date they apparently taught spelling at school (as they should, IMO), and successfully so - at least that's what I can conclude from DS' excellent Spag SATS results which he achieved despite not having had spelling homework once.
New year, new teacher however, and this teacher gives online spelling homework that is awful. Pointless make-work; nobody is going to learn, or improve, their spelling by using that programme, but it takes ages to complete. So it looks like I won't be able to leave the teaching of spelling to school anymore, and given our positive experience with Squeebles, I thought I might give it a go.
I am hesitant though, as

  • I'd rather he'd be writing the words, instead of typing them. For muscle memory purposes, and so he gains a recognition of what the words look like when he writes them.
  • I wonder if it does anything more than just help memorise strings of letters? (Which IMO is not the best way to learn spellings) Does it explain spelling patterns, explain why a word is spelled in a particular way... I assume not. So is it essentially just practice, and works on the basis that the spellings have been 'taught' already?

Which is why I'm following this thread for experiences! :)

Thanks for replies, looks like good opinions overall.
Great tip on the maths apps too, I will sit down this evening and have a look at those too.

I would rather her be writing than typing too so will go for a mixture of both methods I think
