Paying for school milk in Year 1

I started paying for my son's milk after he turned 5, and have continued to pay for it for this first term in Year 1. The reasons being 1. He liked having it, and 2. He was classed as underweight, and had stopped eating much when they changed the school dinners at school (and is just as bad at remembering to drink his water!), so at least if the school was forced to put it in his hand I would know he was getting something!
We are vegetarian also, and don't have much time to drink milk at home without it getting in the way of meals, and he has a small appetite.
So.... I met his yr 1 teacher today, and she asked me why he was having the milk. She said she'd never known a child in year one to have it, and he was the only one. She then asked if I would consider "knocking it on the head" because it is disruptive to the class (one child gets upset that he can't have milk), so my son has to drink it outside in the corridor!! And that he's missing learning time by having it.
I'm actually gobsmacked and mortified. Any thoughts?

In reception milk and fruit are available most of the day for children. In KS1 children have fruit and milk at morning break.

It does seem that our school doesn't have a proper set break time. I think for morning 'break' they're sent outside with a piece of fruit. Not allowed to take drinks out (?) So he is having his milk after lunch, out in the cloakroom now, not the corridor!
I give up 😓
He'll carry on having it for now, I don't really care if the teacher thinks it's a nuisance.

My daughter has just started Reception. Her birthday was just last week so she is already 5 years old. At her school only 4 year olds are allowed milk. She is the only 5 year old and consequently the only child in the whole class not allowed milk. I asked if I could buy milk or send her with some but was told no. It’s really frustrating.

At our primary (small rural) many of the children still have milk up to year 6 (well not mine as they decided they didn't want it any more). Those up to year 1 have it at snack time with the reception class and the older children have it at break time, it's not a problem and I don't see why it should be.

Mepop that's rediculous and isolating for your DD. I thought all schools offered milk if you paid for it after the age of 5.

My yr 3 DD has it. She asked for it. She just told me this week, she's the only one in her class but isn't fussed. She didn't want it last year so didn't have it in term 3
Can't see why its an issue
