Reading homework - specified to only be done in the morning

DS2 is in YR6. Daily reading homework, child to read aloud to an adult and the child to record a brief written summary of what they have read (a couple of lines) and adult to sign as such. All fine.

But the teacher has stipulated the reading must be done in the morning before school and not after school. DS2 doesn't want to disobey the rule, but I have to say it doesn't work particularly well for us (3 other children, 2 have ASD and 1 is a toddler so school mornings are full on) and I'm struggling to see the logic as to why it has to be mornings.

Any other schools have this type of rule?

It's a huge backstory I don't want to go into here, but it all went very wrong with this teacher last year over DS1, and all communication had to go via the Head. ATM that seems like overkill as DS2 may just need a bit more time to settle in to the new class, and I don't want to make things worse. He knows DS1 had an awful time with this teacher as their classes were next to each other and he heard what went on and saw what it did to DS1 for himself. So DS2 has that in his mind too.

The sharing incident seems more like the other child wanted to do a good job of his work (the task was to research on the computer then write down findings) and wasn't intentionally taking advantage of DS2 IYKWIM.

I'll keep monitoring it and suggesting phrases and ways he can speak up, then if there is no improvement I'll take it further. My "in" may be the Yr6 residential trip that they will been keen for DS2 to go on, but he is currently quite torn about.
