V surprised about that nicelegs. Are you in the catchment area of the school?

nicelegs · 04/04/2007 18:37

Are you going to appeal, on grounds of sibling already going there?

nicelegs · 04/04/2007 21:16

yes we will. will also be on the waiting list too.

You may well get through on appeal. But with Stockport, catchment area is top criterion I think. We moved to this authority 3 years ago specifically because we were told that if we were in the catchment of the school we wanted, they HAD to take our children whether they had room or not.

nicelegs - we aren't in Stockport but in a neighbouring borough. A few of ds's friends didn't get in to their preferred school either. They are out of catchment with a sibling. The near ones did and the ones further out didn't.

As far as I know, there are only a couple of grounds on which you can appeal. They are very rigid - it's only really if they haven't followed their published admission policy and criteria. Here it's

Looked after children
Children in catchment with a sibling
Children in catchment without a sibling
Children out of catchment with a sibling
Children out of catchment without a sibling

Good luck though. I don't know you are supposed to get children to different schools on time.

nicelegs · 05/04/2007 16:04

thanks for that info gg.

we may change schools altogether and go to a nearby school for both of them, still in stockport though.

Moving to Marple Stockport from the south hopefully in August (but exchanging ASAP.) Schools are presently full but I have my fingers crossed for a local school. Any top tips for the best school for a sporty boy! Also any other advise for settling in the kids ( I have a daughter who should start pre school also if I can get her in with the late application) Any advise v welcome! Thx

Impatient37 · 10/05/2018 18:47

Egoody I know Marple well, the schools are all good, which one really depends which part of Marple you're moving too though, or is it Marple Bridge? You'll have a good chance on the waiting list of the one you're in catchment for I would've thought x

egoody74 · 10/05/2018 20:12

impatient37 thx v much! The address is Marple but the closest school is the Marple bridge one .. although in catchment for either.
Hoping to get on a waiting list in the next month and praying for a space for Sept!
Is either more sporty? Just unsure which would suit my son better .. although worried I’ll get neither 😬

The Stockport priorities mean that lots of families who get DC1 into a desirable non catchment school in a low admissions year then fail to get DC2 in to same school. I know more than one family who have children in different schools as a result. They use breakfast and afterschool clubs etc to get round it.
The upside of the policy is that it stops families getting one child in and then moving away and still getting second in, even if living miles away: which happens in Manchester.
No perfect system!

Btw depending on where you live almost all Didsbury schools are under subscribed for reception this year due to expansions so you could move there if a space for older child; every one of the schools are good

egoody74 · 11/05/2018 07:25

Thanks lifechallenges.
I’m really hoping they get a local school/ pre school. Didsbury is about 25 mins drive away from Marple .
I’ll just have to keep my fingers crossed.
Thx

Impatient37 · 11/05/2018 08:35

Egoody sounds like your nearest schools will be rose hill and ludworth then? Is this for reception class or are they older?

Ludworth is the outstanding one, generally harder to get a place at, whereas Rose Hill is the new big 'super school'- as a result I believe it has the best facilities for things like sport (and best facilities all round really, because of all the Money spent, it was a brand new build a few years ago.) They have 75 per year intake and ludworth has 45 so you do have more chance with Rose Hill especially if this is for a reception place. You'll also be in catchment for a catholic one so that would be St Mary's, also generally hard to get a place at but they do take 50% non faith. It's a lovely area and all the schools are good x

egoody74 · 11/05/2018 09:30

Impatient37 thanks so much. Yes those are the closest two schools we have looked at. Ludworth is closer but did wonder if Rose Hill may be more suitable for my son plus they have the pre school ( son is 9 and daughter 3) Obviously all full so slightly worried! I think a bigger school may be better for us too.. We aren’t religious and is really prefer a non religious school for them if poss!
Thx v much for your reply and help x
