Buying school shoes

I'm not sure that I have posted in the right place, if not I apologise.

So my DS is starting nursery in September so I am looking to buy school shoes for him. The nursery doesn't have a set uniform in that respect so it doesn't really matter if he doesn't go in school shoes for the first bit but we want to get him in the habit of wearing a uniform. We also have a wedding coming up on the 15th of September. I've already got his suit etc but have not bought shoes because we were planning on just using school shoes. I have found a smart pair with good reviews on the clerked website but I wondered whether I should hold off buying until school starts in hope of a sale-do Clarkes ever do sales on school shoes? When does school start for most children this year? Will they run out of his size if I wait?

They might and it is September now so I'd get on with it. Sometimes Clarks do a 20 off all children's shoes thing but if you google you will probably get a 20% off voucher somewhere.

I don't think they ever do sales on school shoes. At a lot of nurseries they ask you to change their shoes when they get in and they wear plimsolls. I wouldn't bother spending the money on school shoes until you have to.

If you have an outlet centre near you, the Clarks there do good deals. Last season school shoes for £20 or thereabouts.

However DD is going into Receptionand wrecks every pair I ever buy. I just bought her first pair of the year in Peacocks for £8!

BikeRunSki · 01/09/2017 12:56

Unlikely to have a sale on school shoes. YY to outlets.

Thanks everyone. Will just get them now then.

If your child doesn't normally wear smart shoes I don't know why you would get them for nursery school. They mostly wear indoor shoes and you have years of faffing with school shoes ahead of you - why rush ? If they do wear their outdoor shoes inside you want them to be comfy for sitting crossed legged and crawling around so something lighter than a school shoe is probably better anyway.

We love these

chipmunksfootwear.co.uk/

They come up pretty big so we usually buy a size smaller than e.g. clarks.

What are indoor shoes? His nursery is very outdoorsy so there's been no mention of 'indoor' shoes.

If the nursery is outdoors school shoes will be trashed within a week. Do t most kids wear trainers/wellies outside & if they have indoor shoes it's plimsoles

BikeRunSki · 02/09/2017 08:10

Indoor shoes - slippers, Crocs or PE pumps at my DC's old nursery.

DameSquashalot · 02/09/2017 08:17

I love the Chipmunk shoes. I've never heard of them before now.

Clarks usually put some school shoes on sale around November/December but that's it.

I would advise not using the new shoes for nursery until after the wedding. It will only be a few weeks and that way they will still look good for the wedding.

I can see the logic. Your DS needs smart shoes for the wedding, he needs shes for nursery so it makes sense to buy the one pair for both.

Nursery is very hard on shoes and the leather will get all scuffed up in ways you never thought was possible. My DD never trashed a pair of shoes until nursery (foot as brake on the ride on's in the playground). Now she's at school her shoes last much better that they ever did at nursery.

SleepFreeZone · 02/09/2017 10:59

I went into Clarks and got measured and then found the shoes online in another store that had a discount code. So a £36 pair of shoes cost £28. I was pleased with that.

SleepFreeZone · 02/09/2017 11:00

*got DS measured that should have said

Re: Chipmunks shoes Debenhams stock them. They are nice looking shoes and I have a friend that swears by them and they out perform Clarks for half the price. My DD has narrow feet and these come up wide so we haven't been able to buy any for her unfortunately.

Allthecarsarelonely · 02/09/2017 11:07

If he is only starting nursery you might find that the proper Clarks school shoes are too big. The school shoes start at a 7. I have not been able to find proper black school shoes any smaller.

Ttbb · 02/09/2017 12:48

Clarkes have an infant rage, you can find them on the website. They aren't lace ups but there are a couple of pairs that look passable.
