Left handed twins going into Y3 - terrible handwriting

I have 7yo twins going into year 3. Both are left handed - not sure if this is relevant - and they both have terrible, messy, inconsistent handwriting with varied letter sizes and switching between joined up writing and non joined up.
They are a boy and a girl.
Any tips or things we can do over the summer to improve this? Do they need to do specific things for left handers?
Thanks for any advice.

I don't use tins in cookery club so never had this problem.

Well do think about it if/when the need arises!!

Also issues with allocated seats where lefties aren't considered - always ended up on the wrong side - AND one teacher yelled at her for trying to swap places (he soon moved her when I mentioned it!) and I think he's more considerate of lefties now

I'll just avoid tinned food

I'm amazed I've gone through life and coped perfectly well without one.

I have a fridge magnet that says "Everyone is born right-handed. Only the creative overcome it." :) (And when you're left-handed you do have to be creative sometimes!)

I was completely left handed as a child until I broke my arm now I write right handed but do most other things left handed.

I really recommend write from the start. My son is hypermobile and has various special needs, this book really helped and was recommended by two different OTs but by then I had already seen recommendations on MN.

Speed Up (same author) might be better for Y3

Since young, I have spoiled and broken quite a lot of right-handed tools and gadgets - we (parents and me) never realized it was due to me being left-handed and had the label "spoiler" tagged to me Confused.

If you guys have been in a roundtable dining setting, you will know there are plenty of awkward moments, like unwittingly drinking from the glass of the person on your left, or knocking onto their arms/elbow when eating. Grin.

Check out a method called the Magic Link. Sorted out DD's handwriting caused by poor teaching in no time.

Our school's method for attached writing was to tell the children to "just attach the letters"...
