Hi, does anyone have experience with a cathloic school appeal. Its for reception class our child is baptised and it's seems very different for local authorities. What angle should we be going for. Ace have closed shop is there any other agencies can support over the summer holidays.

Why didn't you get a place?

If it's an Infant class size appeal there are very few circumstances in which you will be successful. Mostly it will be because you weren't offered a place because of a mistake.

What angle were you thinking of taking?

We moved to the area, secured a place for eldest in year 4 but nothing for youngest who starts in reception this September. It's a in year appeal. The school we have been offered is the opposite direction but still a cathloic school. The headmaster has confirmed we are no on waiting list.

I have sat on many appeal panels for catholic schools. There should be no differences between catholic schools and any other kind of schools. They still need to be conducted on the basis of the admission criteria of the school being the way that the places are allocated.
The difference is that the admission criteria will be orientated towards those of the catholic faith, which is allowed under the admission regulations. So they would normally give priority to those that are baptised and regularly attending church, attested to by the priest. If there are more pupils to consider under this criteria than there are places then normally distance to the school becomes a deciding criteria.
Many schools will also have an admission number of 15,30, 45 or 60 at which point the infant class size regulations will be important and mean that you will realistically only win an appeal if you can prove that a mistake has been made and you should have been given a place of the admission criteria had been applied correctly.
What tack you take on the appeal very much depends on what exactly is your personal situation.

If it's an in year application and the places have been filled, you'll need to go on the waiting list??

Admission, thank you, if I put something together would you mind having a read?

Sure no problem.

I suppose the other alternative is to try and get your Y4 into the school reception has been offered?
