Reading suggestions

Hello
I'd be grateful for some reading suggestions for the summer holiday. I have a 5 year old boy about to finish reception. He's doing well with his reading (just gone onto ORT level 8/purple - I know not up the with a lot of what I read on here as the norm but I think doing well and has progressed over the year). In general his understanding is very good (misses the point occasionally with some of the traditional tales but more often than not good comprehension). He read me the enormous crocodile and managed that really well and he really enjoyed it. I don't think he's quite ready for the older Roald Dahl yet as he loves pictures so much (and I don't want to rush him as I loved Dahl so much I want him to be really ready to enjoy it properly). We're going to make sure we finish the box of ladybird books we have that are split into levels 1-4 that's we've made a dent in but looking for suggestions as I think we'll get through those before too long and want other ideas.
Thanks in advance .

Happy families books are great.

DK Readers also do some good books for emerging readers, depending on what he is interested in.

Fantastic Mr. Fox, Twits, Magic Finger are the shorter RD books my ds read.

Does your local library have early reader section? My ds read all they had at that stage.

Try summerreadingchallenge. Their website has book sorter to find books of your interest.

Early readers by Orion.

My ds enjoys reading picture books - all the stories I read to him at bedtime and he now reads them to me! We also subscribed to reading chest when we found the school reading books did not quite match his ability and of course the library. My ds particularly enjoys non-fiction books but I let them have a lot of freedom to find out what kind of books they enjoy.

Oh yes we bought the project x oxford reading tree books from the book people. I am not sure what level they start at but all my ds loved them!

Thanks for the suggestions. Will visit the library as we've not done that for a while (difficult with work etc). School have today sent home the reading challenge info so that looks good. We've got tonnes of non fiction that he loves reading so he's OK for facts!
The Project X look good - I'd not heard of those before. May just check with school that they don't have those as would be a shame to just pre-empt what they're likely to give next year.
Thanks all. Any other suggestions welcomed!
