Reading book for summer holidays. 6 yr old good reader at end of YR1

Hi,

I am looking for a book to read with my 6 yr old over the summer holidays. She is a pretty good reader and she is currently reading those Rachel and Kirsty fairy stories to me. She enjoys them and they have served their purpose over the last term but I want something a bit more exciting for the summer holidays.

It could be at the same level as the Rainbow fairy book and then she could read it all or if it was harder we could read a page each.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Thanks

My 6 year old is loving Roald Dahl and Horrid Henry at the moment.

If the library isn't an option for you (it isn't for us due to truncated opening hours & DH and I working), then check out The Book People

dd is 7 and currently reading:

My Little Pony books (we've got 7 of them, they're quite a bit harder than the Rainbow fairies, so we alternate pages and I'm on hand to help with longer words)

Holly Webb animal stories
The Owls of Blossom Wood (rather like the fairies, but with owls)
RSPCA rescue stories
Animal Magic (written by the same author as the fairies)
My Secret Unicorn (these ones she reads at school)
My Naughty Little Sister
Winnie the Witch chapter books (not the picture books, but they have 4 full stories in each book)

DD1 is currently reading Fantastic Mr fox (to me) & loved Charlie & the Chocolate factory (we shared reading)
She loved the daisy books and is also currently devouring naughty Amelia Jane.

My dd is also 6 and we will be doing the summer reading challenge.

She is loving Horrid Henry books at the minute and has started on Matilda.

This little girl ended reception last year on ORT red level and has since become an amazing reader who can't get enough of books.

My class loved the secret diary of pig series by emer stamp. Fun to read especially when you do all the different voices for the characters.

My DD is 7, not a great reader and not very into stories but loves hearing the following read aloud;

  • Mallory Towers (Enid Blyton)
  • Ottoline
  • Jacqueline Wilson stories for younger girls (Sleepovers, Bridesmaid, Buried Alive)
  • Claude books
  • The Sheep Pig

At the same age DS loved;

  • Fudge series by Judy Blume
  • The Pain and the Great One series by Judy Blume
  • Famous Five
  • Roald Dahl
  • Spiderwick Chronicles (DD finds this too scary)
