Sun cream or no?

If your child was going on a trip would you complain if the teacher sprayed them with hypoallergenic factor 50 to stop them burning?

Definitely wouldn't complain- would be grateful. Normally put own suncream on and no allergies/sensitivities here.

jennielou75 planning ahead is awesome

Presumably the parents know you're taking the children to the seaside? In which case they should anticipate some sort of suncream top up being required so anyone complaining would be a bit of a prat.

It's all well and good people saying they'd prefer a rash to sunburn but if the rash is too painful too quickly for sunburn to even happen then that's a moot point. However parents with children like that would definitely send them with extra sun cream.

We have to be prepared!!! This is before the packed lunches go in!

jennielou, you are a wonderful teacher. Your children are very lucky.
Hove lots of fun in the sun today!

*Have!

If suncream not supplied by parents is going to be applied by the school, then it's for the school to advise parents that this may happen and get their permission.

My DS would have reacted badly to suncream being applied. It's not "a bit of a rash" at all.
I wouldn't be happy if someone had put suncream on him without my permission as it's not something I'd expect them to do as a matter of course.

I think you are a lovely kind teacher who is putting the welfare of her class first! I have 3 children who are allergic to most sun creams and I try to use them as little as possible. Thank goodness for antihistamines! I would not complain at all even if my child had a reaction as it's better than sun burn.
Hope you have a lovely trip and the kids all have fun :)

You sound like an awesome teacher!

Well I didn't need to worry as I didn't need to use it. Most children bought their own. I was told that if I did use it and a child reacted and a parent sued it was down to me. It is quite scary really the choices we have to make. My grandpa had repeated skin cancers removed and they said it was due to burns as a child. I get my moles checked yearly so I suppose I do come to this with a different view.

Sounds like a fab trip.
For future reference though, you really should specify in the trip letter - children to bring named suntan lotion, and/or permission to apply school suntan lotion to any who have forgotten. Cover your back then you won't need to make scary choices.
