Injury before residential?

Ds is in y6 and excited to go on a residential for 4 nights next week (Mon-Fri)

However he has injured his foot after a day of paint balling.
X-ray shows no break/fracture so he's been diagnosed with tissue damage based on where it hurts and him visibly hobbling. Dr wouldn't give a time frame with regards to his foot healing. He's not one to moan about pain so I'm sure it hurts when he bears weight on the foot. He's spent the day hopping to the loo etc

He can't walk the half mile to school tomorrow never mind the 6 mile hike that is scheduled for next Tuesday. School is arranged over 2 floors with y6 upstairs. (There is a lift) I've got no idea if they would allow him to go on residential if he's not better and I can't contact the school until tomorrow.

Has anyone got any stories about children being injured just before a residential? Or stories about foot pain healing fast? I don't think it's even occurred to him that this injury might prevent him going.

I took someone with a bad sprain on a residential school trip and made adjustments. Essentially, we treated her as if she were disabled (even if only temporarily) and got her a wheelchair for when she couldn't use crutches. It was a massive hassle as we were in the centre of London for a week. However, it was the right thing to do as we try to make things accessible to disabled pupils so why not her.

Thanks HamletsSister

They are going to the Lake District. Lots of activities like Den Building, Hiking etc

There's nobody with a physical disability going and I know that they've planned some adjustments like children who are scared to go up in a cable car can walk up the hill instead.

It's going to be a long night for me until I can speak to the school. It's not occurred to ds that his injury could be s problem for next week.
