Which reading books for five year old at PART level 8?

Can anyone recommend fun and engaging reading books for child at ORT level 8? He was reading biff kipper and chip books but when we got the level 8 books (fortunately from the library) they were very dry. Book people do the ORT books about aliens at reasonable price but not sure if they would engage a five year old? Thanks in advance

Go to the library and let him choose what he wants to read?
They normally have early reader section.

DC both love the alien adventure books, they first read them when DS was 5 and DD younger, but still get taken out and spread all over bedroom floors at 8 and 5. Obviously a bit formulaic what with there being 50 odd the same but I think that helps them to not be scary - after they've read a handful, they realise the good guys always win.

At that reading level though they should be able to read pretty much any normal picture books you have around. Which gives you loads of options. I remember Winnie the Witch being popular (there are chapter book format ones too when he's ready), Elmer, Happy Families, Julia Donaldson, TtTE, Mr Men etc.

That would be my advice too, but most libraries won't start the challenge until the 15th July.

Thanks I've been struggling to get him to read picture books though he is perfectly capable I think I will try for a bit longer and then try the alien books

Have fun :) we also had a bit of a "but those aren't reading books" barrier getting DS to read non-scheme books. Found reading alternate pages or sentences helped get him started. Or "oh okay you can have an extra story, but you have to read the first page" or something. Once they realised they could, the picture books got a whole new lease of life.

ds5 enjoys the project x ones. With Ds who is in reception and can read pretty much anything we also read the orion early readers from the library.
We''ve also recently ended up with other scheme books other than ORT biff and chip as they are trying to slow him a little, so trying to give breadth.
