Teachers-What would you suggest?

DD is 8. I have been expressing my concerns about her communication and memory for years to just about anyone I thought may be able to help.
At the end of YR2, after I had begun to give up and go with the wait and see approach, her CT asked me to come in and pretty much pointed out all the things I had been saying which was a relief. She is now nearing the end of YR3 and her recent profile report shows that she is working at YR2 age related targets(at the beginning of the year she was working below).
Can I ask, if a child in your class was working at this level would you see it as a concern or would you see the progress as acceptable?.The reason I am asking is that I'm unsure whether I should go in and have a chat with the teacher seeing that she has made some progress.

Not a teacher.
If it was me, I would speak to the teacher before end of school year and ask her/him what you can do during summer to help her. She's making a progress. It's better to keep going, maybe not too much pressure, but little bit a day so she can build up more confidence for the new year.

She is making progress which is great, so I would go in and ask what you can to keep up the progress over the summer.

Thanks for the replies. We will keep practicing everything then. she really is a little star. She always works so hard. I just don't understand the levels no matter how many times they are explained which is why I thought the teachers out there may reassure or point me in the right direction.Smile

Does she get good support at school? I assume she does, if she is making good progress.
Since the new NC, age related expectations/targets has gone up so much, the children who could have been ok with old NC is now behind.
Do you suspect she has some kind of learning difficulty, or just late bloomer?
If you think she has SEN/SPLD, and can't get adequate help for it at school, you can ask for advice on MN, there are many posters, especially teachers with great knowledge.
Anyways, I do think it's better for you to speak to the teacher before summer, to find out what school is/has been doing to support her, and what's next step, what you can do to support her during summer.
If you can tell us what she is struggling with, posters maybe able to suggest more practical help.

Have you tried taking her to the gp?
If you feel that she might have a learning difficulty and school is doing nothing I would try that.

From a teacher...

So she is currently one year behind academically? I'm sure the teacher will very good at differentiating lessons and will set her work according to ability. However, I would have flagged this up by now and asked for a intervention programme. Is it English or maths? Or both? There are many that can be done.

Is your child saying the work is too hard all the time? Are there any other issues in the class? I would ask for an appointment with the class teacher after school and then take it from there. It's highly like that she should be on an individual education plan or equivalent to help close the gaps in her knowledge. Pm if you would like.
