Yr 1 ds - only one at registration that doesn't know the day of the week!

Apparently my ds is the only one who is in such a trance at registration every day that when it gets to be his turn to say good morning when his name is read out - he doesn't remember the day of the week.

It's so odd. The teacher is clearly a little exasperated. I sense he's just stressed out by not knowing and goes blank (not that the days of the week are a massive priority to him - he really only cares if it's the week end or not!)

I'm so thrown by these struggles he's having I don't know why it's so depressing but it is. We spent forever on his list of words for his spelling test and apparently he wrote more confidently this week but still he's not finding it as easy as most of the class.

oh well, I wish school could celebrate physical confidence and verbal skills - he'd do really well in that kind of school!

Barney has a song - Sunday Monday, Tuesday Wednesday, .... to the tune of Oh my Darling Clementine if that helps!

My son was 10 before he knew what day of the week it was! So I wouldn't worry too much.

My dd1 refused to answer 'If today is Thursday what day is tomorrow?' questions. She would only admit to it being the real day, no ifs! She was 6 when that was a major issue with her teacher.

My yr 2 child often doesn't know the day of the week. She is vague and scatty.

Neither does my DP, who's incredibly bad on dates and days but still has a 1st in physics and a PhD. He still can't do dates.

I wish there was a school subject in creative vague drifty sweet sensitive oddity. My dd1 would do well in that

thanks for feedback! I liked your dd's view of the 'real' day stleger!
He practiced that's it's Wednesday loads today and he told the teacher as she took them into class and I heard her say "Maybe mummy will play some memory games with you".....
sigh.....
We all go back to school when our kids go don't we?!?

fennel, also my dh in some respects - never knows where he's put anything.

" I put my passport there, behind this plantpot which is standing over a bin, balanced carefully on a matchbox! It was right there last time I looked!"

Me: "Is that in your opinion a good place to store your passport?"

"That's not the point. It's where I put it."

One of my twin DDs in year 1 still has no idea what day of the week it is, so try not to worry. She's very creative and dreamy, but also very vague . Drives her much more practical sister nuts when she asks if they go to school on a Saturday .

Fennel - love that description of your DD, sounds just like mine .
