Inclusivity in schools

How do you know if the school is being inclusive? What are the signs that a school gets equality and inclusivity, or in fact, doesn't get it? We've been asked to comment as parents and I don't know what I'm looking for,Blush and would rather answer fully than base wholly on my own child's experience.

Ask your dc what school do with children who has special needs, chronic illness, English as a second language, etc?

I'd say to look at what they are doing for sn both in terms of physical and learning difficulties. I'd also see what they are doing for children who are advanced.
Also looking for things like nurture groups for children having issues settling in.

Have a look at the backuptrust.org. Their info will help steer you. The Govt also has a paper on inclusive schools dated 2015. You are unlikely to know exactly how well your school is doing because some of what they do for an individual child will not be duscussed with parents but you can get an idea if your school is taking this seriously.

If you have been asked to comment as a parent then it should be what applies to you and your child rather than other people
