Does anyone else have a child just too scared to go to school for no obvious reason? I'm I the only person this is happening to. I can't physically get him in anymore.

can you spell out what heart and head are saying?

Chocolateface · 25/04/2007 13:28

My head says I should perservere with school, that when he is happy there, every thing is fine. He can chat to other boys about Doctor Who cards, play Hockey in games, and giggle with the girls. My heart says I can't keep forcing him into something he's obviously terrified of. I want to sit in the garden with him reading Doctor Who books, and learn times tables while we sit on the climbing frame. We haven't done anyting constructive today, though. (he's watching TV now) I just don't feel capable today.

Personally, I would follow my heart. I was school phobic. At 5 couldn't understand it myself let alone explain it, but it was very real.

Do you know anything about why he doesn't want to go ? Do you have an inkling if he won't tell you ?

Did you ever overcome your phobia, Theodores Mummy?

we thought our ds was school phobic, now he's at a different school(of the same size),he has no school phobia. It was the school he was at that he was phobic of.Why start your daughter there if you are so unsure of it.?
When my son refused to go in we had loads of days off,it was so hard. They also said 'there's something not right, but not sure what'.
That's crazy,and,'he's ok when he's here!'
He clearly wasn't.I hope you can get this sorted, soon.

I was home educated until I was 10 (autonomously with a little guidance thrown in occasionally). Moved house when I was 10 and did last year of primary school at a tiny, lovely, accepting village school. I had a lovely year. Then I went to a huge, impersonal high school and was miserable, but not phobic - although I pretended to be ill as often as I could.
