I don't know if this is a big thing or not. dd 5.10 came home with wet pants, which I was a litte suprised as she doesn't normal wet her pants. I was then shocked when she told why they were wet. She had asked her teacher to go too the loo but had been told she would have to wait till break. I know they do have a problem with some children asking sevaral times in a day and are keen to get them to go at break.
dd is one of the youngest in the class and the class is mixed 1/3 y1 and 2/3 y2 surely they should not expect so much of her. She know's to go to the toilet at break and said she had at the break before.
Is it just me and it not right or am I making a mountain out of a mole hill.

It's not right.

raspberryberet · 15/03/2007 12:04

No, you're not making a mountain out of a molehill. Poor dd, of course she should be allowed to go to the toilet when she needs to. Have a word with the teacher, and if you get no joy there, then see the head.

I would add that maybe you should make sure she really did ask to go before you go in all guns blazing - my dd is 6 and has fibbed to me before when she's wet herself accidentally and was too embarrassed to take the blame herself.

Wouldn't expect a child of that age to go til break - we expect it of our older juniors and, you usually know which children only ask because they fancy 5 mins away from their work!

LilyLoo · 15/03/2007 12:11

This def not right. We have this policy but i work in secondary school. I would go into school and just ask to have word with teacher and explain. IMO this is far too young too restrict toilet trips.

Saturn74 · 15/03/2007 12:13

Poor little girl.

ScummyMummy · 15/03/2007 12:15

I'd be very cross.

TwoToTango · 15/03/2007 12:24

Agree with LilyLoo - I'd be cross, she's still only little, i'd def have a word with the teacher.

homemama · 15/03/2007 12:26

Reception children can't wait that long. Unless she was queuing up to go out i.e one minute from break then this isn't good. I make junior kids wait but not little ones.

Also, are you saying she spent the day in wet knickers? Was her skirt not wet too? Did nobody notice? I'm amazed at that!

nickytwotimes · 15/03/2007 12:35

poor kid! little ones can't wait. my teacher in primary did this to me and i soaked the place. never did it again though

mateychops · 15/03/2007 12:35

I'd be livid.

foxybrown · 15/03/2007 12:37

That's not on. Have a word.

AnAngelWithin · 15/03/2007 12:38

i have recently had this problem. DS1 was 7 and he messed himself because the teacher wouldn't let him go. She seemed to have something against him anyway as she was always putting him on the naughty cloud etc. He was too ashamed to tell me though so it wasn't til I sorted the clothes that night......

anyway, I went and had a very serious word with the teacher. She was right in the corridor and there were other parents there so I ended up totally humiliating her (not my intention really!) but since then she has been a lot nicer towards ds.

I would have a word with the teacher and if you are still not satisfied with the teachers explanation I would go see the head teacher. Its not acceptable to make them wait, especially considering they have probably been toilet trained for less than half the amount of time they have been on this earth!

lexcat · 15/03/2007 12:47

No she didn't have wet pants all day a different teacher sorted her out with dry clothes. Only wish it was the same teacher who told her she would have to wait. She might have learn something from that. Little people can't alwayes wait.
the teacher who found her dry clothes and help her change is from her old class. dd was happy as she loves this teacher.
