Does this have an impact marking wise? if they don't join up their writing will they be marked down? Thanks

The old guidance says it should be used to refine judgements but not change the overall level awarded.

Secure fit now - which yes, does mean the absolutely blooming everything fit (except handwriting, unless at Greater depth).

My DS1's teacher has asked a local moderator of year 2 SATS about this, as DS1 rarely joins (and his writing is hard to read on many occasions). She was categorically told that he could still reach greater depth without joining, so long as he met the other criteria. We discussed it at parent's evening a couple of weeks ago.

The moderator is categorically wrong!

It's very clear:

Feenie you have linked the KS1 framework, but I presume the wording is the same for KS2?

MrsKCastle · 11/05/2017 07:21

Just checked the KS2 framework and it's very clear that handwriting must be joined for greater depth.

RueDeWakening, the moderator that I worked with last week was very clear that they need to be joining for KS1 greater depth. In 'most' of their writing.

Feenie · 11/05/2017 07:22

It is the same - I linked it for RueDeAwakening.

I'm not sure why some Y2/6 teachers find it so difficult to understand! (Obviously I don't mean you, Mrs K Castle.]

RueDeWakening · 11/05/2017 20:25

Thanks Feenie, interesting as that's definitely NOT what I was told! Ah well, I'll wait and see what happens next week.

Feenie · 11/05/2017 20:54

What's happening next week, Rue? The final TA won't be reported to you until July.

RueDeWakening · 11/05/2017 23:14

DS1 is doing his year 2 SATS next week, that's all - I'm not bothered about the results he gets in them, but he'll no doubt be talking about them at home.

No joined writing required for tests, only work in books for writing teacher assessment.
