SATS results for KS2

Sorry if this has been already asked but does anyone know if there is a set way that SATS results are given out or is it down to the school individually?

I'm just wondering if DD will be told her results in school or if they will be sent home in a sealed envelope for me to open?

I'm not bothered about the results but DD is very bothered (despite me trying my best to put her at ease) so was wondering if schools have to hand them out in a certain way, and if so what is that way, or if they can do as they want?

Also when/what date do we get the results so I can be prepared to counteract any possible meltdown if I need to.

It varies school to school but I'm sure they are always issued to the parents, not the children. Some send home with end of year report.

mrz · 06/05/2017 13:48

Our children are told in school and are given a letter to take home.

spanieleyes · 06/05/2017 13:57

Same as mrz, told in school, letter sent home

whatsitallabout1 · 06/05/2017 13:59

Ours are given to children first too.

Trb17 · 06/05/2017 13:59

Thank you for the replies - I will assume she'll likely be told in school in that case.

Do you know when they are told? Is it a random date or with reports at end of year?

Think it's the 4th of July

Trb17 · 06/05/2017 15:07

Fab thank you. Our reports are out on 7th so guessing we'll hear then.

Ours were given to the child in a sealed envelope addressed to the parent. They were told to hand them to the parent and not open them.

I thought that was good as it stopped them comparing scores. Some kids in DD's class were not very tactful to say the least.

Wh0Kn0wsWhereTheTimeGoes · 06/05/2017 20:05

With reports here, about a week before the end of term.

Trb17 · 06/05/2017 20:27

Oh I hope ours do the same Teen... the kids can be ruthless and whilst I'm sure DD will do fine she could do without the worry of having classmates all comparing.

Last year, when by ds took them they were in envelope for parents.
Comparing marks not pleasant.
One girl- who did well- was a sod for asking everyone what they had got while bragging [her Mum's fault].
Did not tell my ds his scores and he was fine with that.

SkeletonSkins · 07/05/2017 22:41

Ours go home with reports in sealed envelope to parents.

Hissy · 07/05/2017 22:55

I think I'll shred ours in the envelope.

I don't care what he gets and I don't want him to either. It's not important.

EvilTwins · 07/05/2017 22:58

I know that 100 is the "expected standard" mark but what does it go up to and down to?

Trb17 · 08/05/2017 06:06

EvilTwins the scaled scores range from 80 to 120.

If it helps this was last years raw score to scaled scores guide:

DD's school they give out a sealed envelope addressed to the parent.
In my older DS's year pretty much all the DC opened them (when out of teacher's view).

bojorojo · 08/05/2017 12:28

Why not know the results, Hissy? Unfortunately tests are common in secondary education, so DC get to know where they stand in the pecking order anyway. Starts with sets for Maths and English. Children cannot be protected from results of tests forever more. Most take it in their stride. It is not as if they don't know who the bright - not so bright ones are anyway. It is very evident in primary school!

In my experience results are sent home with final reports. Children are not fully mature at 11 and some will be delighted with their results, and their parents are immature too. Most children tend to ignore the ones that keep asking for their scores because they know it is because they want to disclose their (high) scores. Just keep quiet and do not get wound up by others. There is no need and they can be avoided if you make an effort!

Hissy · 08/05/2017 12:47

Because the test is NOT for the benefit of the children and will be irrelevant in a matter of months when they start Secondary School they will be assessed again and streamed, this is normal and to be expected.

This is not about protecting kids from tests or the results of tests, it's about the false importance the schools are placing on them to the kids and the ensuing stress manifesting in the kids. SATS are all about league tables and PR for the school.

My ds is not one who loses sleep over anything, but I do know that there are some kids who are really beside themselves.

When the subject of SATS came up last week, I asked DS if he was OK and that I hoped he wasn't feeling stressed or worried about it. I was shocked to see how insistent he was the absolute importance to do well and he then asked what would happen if he failed etc.

I'm angry about this more than anything. they have no right to put this pressure on kids when it really DOESN'T have any importance whatsoever.

SabrinaTheTeenageBitch · 08/05/2017 16:56

My daughter has done her first SPAG test today. She only finished two of the three stories she had to read.

She has ASD and was given extra time.

Does that mean she will automatically fail?

mrz · 08/05/2017 16:59

Today was the Reading test. SPaG is later in the week. Not completing the test won't automatically mean failure. It all depends on how many of the answers are correct and the thresholds when they are released.

SkeletonSkins · 08/05/2017 17:30

Sabrina i have a couple of children with additional needs who did the same. If she answered the rest quite well she can still pass - last year you needed 21 out of 50 to pass however this year I think it make go up a little as the paper was more accessible.

diplodocus · 08/05/2017 17:30

Mrz really? We were also told it was the first SPAG test today as well as reading (am still at work so not checked with DD)

SkeletonSkins · 08/05/2017 17:35

No both SPaG papers are tomorrow (a spelling test and a grammar test) and don't have any texts to read.

diplodocus · 08/05/2017 17:37

Oh - was told it was just spelling tomorrow. Think they must have messed up the list. Not that it matters.
Thanks
