Hi. Looking for some inspiration. My son is going on a world war 2 themed school trip in the next couple of weeks and they have to bring a traditional 1940s packed lunch. Any ideas that he will actually eat? Thanks all xx

A raw carrot on a stick was a lolly substitute. Yum! You could make him a toffee carrot too.

Our school went on a trip a while back.

These were suggestions.
Sandwiches using wholemeal bread with scraping of Marg and sprinkling of cheese or Spam, meat or fish paste, luncheon meat, sardines, salad
Homemade cake
Salt n shake crisps
Biscuit - custard creams, rich tea
Fruit that would have been available - apple, pear, plums, cherries

And sandwiches were wrapped in greaseproof and put in homemade gas-mask box.

Hope your child has as much fun as mine did!

We made fishpaste sandwiches with 100% wholemeal bread (we have a bread maker and usually make 50% wholemeal). I bought some dripping to make pastry for a jam tart with blackberry jam. I turned the jam tart over on top of the sandwich and wrapped it all up in a piece of cloth. Ds said that it was the most authentic lunch in the group, according to the guide!
