How quickly should you expect a response to a letter to school Governors?

So clearly, this is probably a 'how long is a piece of string' type of a question. But I'm asking anyway!

If you raise an issue with the school governors (that isn't an immediate safeguarding issue, so no need for immediate response), within what sort of time frame would you expect a response? I don't want to be specific about the issue but it is to do with a concern about the way the school is dealing with certain situation (sorry for the very vague explanation).

And how much would the Easter holidays impact on that time frame? Should that whole period be ignored? Any thoughts, expectations, experiences would be appreciated!

As Governors are volunteers you should work around the fact that many people go away for Easter. The Chair at dd school has just left for a 6 week holiday in Australia.
I would expect an acknowledgement within 2 weeks but if it needs an investigation of some sort around 28 days.

Given it doesn't need immediate response, but will probably require discussion, I would say a couple of weeks yes - discussion can happen over email but many people would have been away over Easter. We would probably send an acknowledgement immediately but a fuller response might take a couple of weeks or more if you send something just before Easter.

It should tell you in the schools complaint policy.

Usually it says acknowledgement in so many working days and either a set maximum time to investigate and respond or that acknowledgement will give timescales and deadlines they'll get back to you within.

I'd not count school holidays in any turnaround time frame.

Acknowledgement of it within the first week back and then some kind of feedback depending on what it is.

Equally, I don't think parents have the right to know the details of what's being done about certain things. (E.g. I've fielded questions where parents have complained about a teacher and they've wanted to know what's happened to that teacher. We dealt with it. That's all they need to know.)

If it's an enquiry type letter then anything up to 28 days.
If it's a complaint, then the rind frame should be clearly stated in the complaints policy

Thanks all. I hadn't thought to check the formal complaints procedure.

Because of Easter it could be a long wait. It will depend on whether they use their full allocation of days.

About a month fir an initial acknowledge I would guess. They are all volunteers and many will be away
