Cost of tutoring in London?

I'm looking at getting a tutor for dd1 next year, to prepare for secondary school entrance exams, as I know her primary school won't teach her any exam technique or cover all the work she needs to in time for the exams. I've got a couple of contacts from parents of older children, but I was wondering what is the going rate?

Any other standard things - like how much homework they're expected to do per week for the tutor, whether the tutoring is term time only or carries on through the holidays etc - would be really useful to know, too.

We paid £35 per hour a couple of years ago. I would use the holidays for tutor time when kids don't have other stuff on. Much harder to squeeze it in on top of everything else in term time. I believe in little and often, and a regular consistent schedule.

We are in Richmond borough, if that helps guage the area/price.

Thanks! I've been quoted £40 per hour, which seemed steep, but it sounds like it's the right ballpark. And dd1 gets so little homework from school that I think we could probably fit some in during the week, but I'll bear in mind your point about holidays being better.

You can easily pay £60-£80 for top entrance tutors. Personally I haven't topped £50, buy many do
