Does anyone have any book suggestions for a free reading 6 1/2 year old girl please. Series rather than single books if possible. I'm tempted to let her loose on my Harry Potter but the content of the later ones is a little too much

Terry Pratchett the witch's vacuum cleaner and dragons of crumbling castle very popular with my Y1 class.

My 5yo is working her way through the complete Wizard of Oz at the moment - there's zillions of them! The complete works is so big she can barely carry it upstairs.

Apart from that, she's loving the Enid Blyton school stories, Rainbow Fairies, Animal Magic, some series with Mermaids and a glittery cover and a selection of fact books about animals.

DD is older now but was an early free reader. She liked:

Enid Blyton - Faraway Tree, Malory Towers, Secret Seven in particular
Jeremy Strong
Rainbow Magic
Beast Quest
Sam Silver
Magic Treehouse
Animal Ark (and other Holly Webb stuff)
Gwyneth Rees books - Fairy Dreams etc especially
Horrible Histories
Gym Stars
Noel Streadfeild books - Ballet Shoes etc
Some classics - Five Children and It, Little Princess, Secret Garden.

Mine loves the Holly Webb animal books. There are loads of them, all seeming to involve missing or abandoned kittens Grin

Mine is reading (and rereading) Tom Gates books, Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Horrid Henry. She's also read lots of Enid blyton books, there are millions of those if you can get them into them. Not just famous five, but the faraway tree books, the wishing chair and tons of books about pixies and Goblins.

Which reminds me, we need a trip to the library!

Just a note to say I was watching this as have a similar problem with DD, in terms of finding books she will like reading alone and with me, that are at the right level reading wise, but also content that interests her, as some of her recent books from school have been too old for her in terms of subject matter.

So although this was not my thread, I do want to add my thanks for all the wonderful recommendations. I ordered a set of 6 Claude books and she absolutely loves them and asked if she could take a half finished book to Grandma's this morning as she didn't want to stop reading it.

I've saved the recommendations and will be exploring the others.

Thanks so much.
