Change school?

posting on behalf of a friend:

Her dd is 5 and started reception in September, they have now moved and live approx 5 miles from current school so they are considering moving her to a local school to where they have moved.
Current school now is a very good school but an appeal is going through for a school local to their new house which is also very good plus a place available in a nearby school also that is also quite good.
My friend is worried about moving her dd as they have just moved house, they are about to go on a 3 week holiday and she wont know anyone at the new schools - Anyone else done this or can anyone offer any opinions on the best thing to do?
Its been suggested that she would be better moving now at the age she is rather than leave it till year one or two and also that she would then have friends in the local area to go onto senior school with. Her current teacher has said she may take a little while to settle into a new school and to just enjoy their holiday and settle into their new house and think about it again later down the line??? what do you think????

My dds age 6 and 5 have changed school twice in the last year, both times mid-term, as we've moved house twice. They've been fine with it. The second time they chose to move rather than stay at the old school a couple of miles (but a grim traffic-jammed drive) away.

They do settle quite easily at this age, IME. I would just go for it if I were her, if they are thinking of moving her at some point, just get on with it. We dithered about our second move and I am so very glad we did move them, they settled easily and we have a short walk rather than a horrible drive to school. And their new friends live nearby, which is very important for children.
