DS 7 has to give a 'special interest talk' to his classmates on Thursday. He has decided he wants to give a talk on light, as he is interested in science, and has just made a fibre optic light kit with DH.

Can anyone help with some child friendly websites to look at with him? DS is Y2 and a confident reader.

Thanks

The BBC education science bits size has some bits. Could he talk about the sun and what makes light in the classroom. Give me a minute and I'll see if I can find any websites for you...

diferent sources of light in the classroom is a genius idea, thanks I think he really wants to do this so he can take his fibre optic light in!

These are probably not what you are looking for...

waht about the science musuems website..

also what about talkign about fact you need light to see. He could make the classroom dark and talk about fact it is difficult to see and then show his fibre optic thing and talk about how easy it is to see. Then he could make it light again and say it is no harder to see it beause of lighe coming from else where!

thanks very much Cazzy and MB, will look at those sites now and help him plan a talk tomorrow.

and the optic light thing works because light bounces from side to side.....light traveling in a straight line and all that

electronics.howstuffworks.com/fiber-optic2.htm

explains how light can go round a bend, in a fibre optic tube, but can't in your hallway!

Great resources, thanks again both.

I can see that Howstuffworks being a favourite for DS in years to come, as he is really interested. He has devoured the Horrible Science books he had for Christmas, has been on a mission to get all the Horrible Science CD Roms from the front of cereal packets, and is forever asking me questions I can't answer.

Cheers
