A question from a friend who's DD started in y4 juniors last Sept having moved from France. What can one expect (demand was his view!) for music lessons in Junior school? (We are still Infants so I have no idea).

Having come from France their expectations were high....

Many thanks.

in our ks2 children are offered woodwind (clarinet/flute) brass (cornet/trombone) numerous stringed instruments, drums, and piano all from y3.
All of them are through the lea music school, except for the piano, but she still comes into school. Not sure who organises the drumming.
It is a very musical primary school though. Head is a singing teacher, and heavily into her choirs.
Hope that helps and if not at least it will have bumped it for you

DS's school does drums and a few others. He's only interested in drums but they don't start till y3, I think.

It depends on both the school and the LEA. At our school brass and woodwind teachers come in to school, once a week each.

Juniors can have lessons with these for only £40 a term - sometimes these are shared lessons, depends on who else plays the same instrument to a similar level.

Pupils either buy their own instruments, borrow one from the County music service (limited range) or do a rental scheme from a local music shop.

Lessons start at Y3 here and cost £28 a term. Pupils are taught in pairs of a similar ability. We are hiring violin from school for £10 a term. Very pleased.
