What does fluent blending actually look like?

DD still sounds out.

Today her book is The Odd Pet. She knew 'the' and 'pet' straight away, but had to sound out o-dd.

The first sentence is 'Kim has a cat. Jim has a dog'.

If she sounds out the words Kim, has and Jim, has but blends as soon as she's said the last sound ( so "K-i-m, Kim') is that fluent? Or is the book too hard?

If she can accurately blend the sounds and say the word then the book is fine

I agree, surely if she can read the book it's not too hard.

Oh good. I was wondering if she had to be able to blend it in her head for it to count as fluent reading.

That comes with time and experience. She's still in the very early stages of learning

That sounds fine.
