7+ exams at Westminster, Habs, St. Paul's

I haven't noticed a 7+ thread for the ultra competitive schools this year and thought I'd start one - rather late, I know!! My son is a very clever but unassuming little fellow, comfortably in the top 5 of children in his year group despite being A relatively young June baby. Our head suggested he sits the 7+. I have been supporting him myself with Bond books and recently having a go at past papers online from the schools who publish them!

My biggest concern is Westminster. As we've never hired a tutor and they don't publish sample papers I have no idea what the exams entail and what level it is pitched. At this point I am hoping some mums who have been through the exams can come to my rescue and share any information just so my son knows what to expect on the day! E.g. For the composition and comprehension paper how much time is given? I heard Kings College (unfortunately too far south for us) gave them only 20 minutes to write a whole story! Any other info on the maths and reasoning paper would be very gratefully received. Also is there some kind of activity e.g. Art they do on exam day?

For habs my son found the sample papers very easy. Is it really representative of the real thing?

Thank you so much for your help.

At 7+ and 8+ my view is that you really shouldn't need a tutor, although a few bond papers won't go amiss. Boys who need a tutor to reach the standard at that age are often unhappy later IME. Look at where your child fits, not where you are determined to squeeze him in.

Has anybody got a place from reserved list? I am on a reserved list and wonder how realistic I can be...

Can anybody share what did SPJ were looking for? Do you think that it is mostly written results are important?

Hi schooling123, we're on a reserve list too-kcs and it's pure torture. What I can't understand is have all the deadlines for Colet Court and Westminster Under passed?

7plusdad · 07/02/2017 10:02

The WUS deadline for 7+ acceptances is noon on Thursday 9th Feb so there may well still be some people sitting on the fence. Good luck!

The WUS website says 7+ acceptance deadline is Thursday 4th February
2017, Noon, but has it been postponed? How about SPJ?
The deadline still stays on the 9th?

Does anyone know when schools will start calling for reserve list boys?

lulu2017 · 08/02/2017 11:18

Hi nopunintended11, I just got informed that the school filled the spot already and declined letters were posted yesterday...

nopunintended11 · 08/02/2017 11:58

Thanks lulu2017 was this for both WUS and SPJ?

lulu2017 · 08/02/2017 12:06

Mine is for SPJ, I don't know what to say to my son as he had been looking forward to hear the good news from SP. For WUS, I heard from my friend who were offered the place at WUS after all from their waitlist position recently said the school said they closed the (wait)list as well.
