Nightmares after watching program at school

My DD is in reception (summer baby) and they showed a film about Diwali a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately she's still having occasional nightmares about the 10 headed monster. Do you think I should feed this back to the school? I don't want to come across as racist but I wonder if they need to take more care over the films they show at school

Thanks

Different children react differently to things. For example, my DD (just turned 6, Y1) gets anxious reading books about naughty children (eg school stories) but she’s fine with scary witches and the like.

Unless you’re hearing in the playground that this was generally a traumatising experience for a number of the children, I wouldn’t be mentioning it to the teacher. I’m sure they wouldn’t show some inappropriate film to teach Reception-aged kids about Diwali.

Have you tried finding out a bit more about Diwali with your daughter? Perhaps with a bit more information she would be reassured. Or maybe she would find a discussion about other beliefs, religions, superstitions, or something like the Loch Ness Monster helpful?

It won’t be the last thing that she finds scary. My feeling is that this is one to manage at home.
