Myself and my partner had some concerns about dd teacher as she started in Sep and up to dec was bringing home regular homework i.e. phonics sheets , letter practice etc , then she went into hospital in dec had to have 2 weeks off then since then there has been virtually nothing in her bag , no homework at all I think one sheet since beginning of Jan, one GIN book which had no words, just pictures, does this seem strange??
My partner went to the school to discuss it with dd teacher who was very rude and abrupt and then following her actually walking out half way through the conversation her senior who would be head of reception stage came in asked what was his concerns wrote it in a book and we presumed she would come back to us, meanwhile she told the headteacher who phoned my partner to listen to his concerns and promised to come back within 7 days , that was two weeks ago and not a dicky bird from any of them, I think this is very bad so was wondering your opinion on this? could the three of them really have forgotton to even bother contacting us or are they just not at all interested.

I would have followed it up after the week and asked what was happening. Contact the school. You have given them ample time to get back to you.

Who went into hospital - dd or teacher?
What did dp say to the teacher?

Well I think I will the school is closed today and I don't pick up dd as I work full time so she get dropped and picked up by childminder , my partner's mother keeps saying go above the Head and complain as she should have a secretary who could have called you or she must have a diary, I have lost confidence in her really as when dd had to go into hospital I was told I neeeded to discuss with the head and then twice I made appointments with her and she was not there, and did'nt even phone and apologise so clearly her organisation skills are not very good anyway.

sorry my dd went inot hospital and then had to have 2 1/2 weeks off, he just explained to the teacher that she has had nothing in her book bag etc that she had no reading books the one piece of homework she did have was put in her book bag and was still in there back and forwards for about 4 days, she seemed a bit grumpy and just said she had to go.

Dd is in reception in a private school and has no homework although she does bring home the dreaded ORT books. I wish they didn't bother to be honest.

I got a letter last week saying they have decided not to send word lists home any longer as it was just stressing the children (and parents) and it was more important to make reading fun via stories and games.

They have the rest of their school lives to do homework, its not really necessary in reception

i don't think it's necessary to go 'above the head' at this point to be honest.

call the school
explain your concerns again and take it from there. it could have been overlooked with the Christmas holidays and getting back in January.
but don't leave it until half term

but - I also have a dd in reception and the only thing she brings home is reading books and a reading comments book. No sheets, words to learn etc etc. They really don't need homework at this age. And that's fine.
