So, if it snows tomorrow

and you have to drive kids to school but the roads aren't cleared, would you be justified in giving it a miss?

Am just thinking ahead. In bad conditions people are always advised not to go on unnecessary journeys. Ds1 is in Reception, it's about a mile and a half to his school on a main road and then a few smaller roads.

Saadia, yes it is a private school, but not an old fashioned/fuddy duddy/boaters type. They have a really good modern uniform for example.

Group text alerts seem a really good idea. They have the numbers of me, DH and our nanny so we all got one. I don't think they are that hard to set up.

not a hope of snow tomorrow morning where we are. Apparently it will snow during the night and then rain. Crap.

kid · 07/02/2007 23:10

Thanks for that site to check time the snow is expected. According to that, our snow is due between 7am and 10am. Looks like DS will see it before, during and after which will make his day. I hope they haven't got it wrong!

PeachesMcLean · 07/02/2007 23:12

Go on, rub it in why don't you.

kid · 07/02/2007 23:14

Okay I will!
I might even post a picture of a snowman, if we make one. There might be too much snow for us to get out of the house to make it.
Tbh, I don't have much faith in there being loads of snow, I will have to wait until the morning to see if I am wrong.

PeachesMcLean · 07/02/2007 23:18

EEEEEVILLLLLL Kid.
Grrrr.

saadia · 08/02/2007 08:01

thanks Anchovy, the reason I asked is because I have a theory. I'm wondering if private schools are a bit more considerate about realising that parents might have trouble bringing kids in - maybe they come from further afield - and if perhaps state school heads do not have the authority to allow this "time off" and also if they don't want to bring down attendance figures.

Kid, all is forgiven. We built a snowman this morning. If it's snowy here, the rest of the country must be really bad!
And school's cancelled.

Bozza · 08/02/2007 09:27

I don't get this. If it a mile and a half then walk - driving would be an unnecessary journey.

Ladymuck · 08/02/2007 10:02

All well in theory - in practice I can't actually push the buggy at all with ds2 in it in the current depth of snow. As it is still snowing not sure what it would be like on the way back.

saadia · 08/02/2007 10:07

Same here, have ds2 to push and it is uphill and ds1 would no doubt collapse on the way. Last time it snowed I drove but friend reported waiting an hour for the bus home. It is much deeper today and still snowing ATM so will get deeper and I might have trouble picking him up if he had gone.

the snow is west london wasnt that bad so took ds in. although we had the letter yesterday i think it meant if it was bad and it wasnt. schhol open as usual.

kid · 08/02/2007 21:00

We had quite a lot of snow, we did build a snowman before school and another one at school. Most of the snow had melted by hometime but had turned to slush. Its all meant to freeze overnight so we will be iceskating to school in the morning!

saadia · 09/02/2007 12:05

well after all that turns out the school was actually closed yesterday.

My neighbour (being more dedicated than I) pulled her 3yo on a sledge for the 1/2 mile walk to the bus stop and then bussed in to school only to find that they aere closed and had to come back again. She has a very heavy 3 yo and it was still snowing!
