seryph - as I have helped in many classes with lots of young newly qualified teachers, and as a teacher in the past myself, I think it is true that they don't get boys.
But not all. We had a fab reception teacher who came to us as an NQT. She was brilliant with the boys. When I was chatting to her I discovered she had 5 brothers. I do think it is connected.
It really isn't about 'boys running around' and 'girls sitting still' but it is much more subtle than that, and obviously not all boys or all girls follow the stereotype.
The brilliant reception teacher just had a way of joking and jollying the boys, that got them sitting up straight and striving to behave. I can't even put into words what it was that she did differently.
I have a ds and without question, out of all the teachers he has had over the years, those with either more experience or who had sons themselves managed the behaviour of the boys better
I also have 2 dds, and it doesn't seem to have the same effect on the girls.
Just to put the other side too. One girl in dd2s class really struggles to sit still. She fiddles with things with her hands all the time, at times disrupting others. But I notice she is picked up on it much more than boys doing the same thing, enough that I have noticed. But it is subtle effect.
