Yr1 reading - how many pages per night??

DD1 is a decent reader but not mn genius level. I love books & hope she will too so want to encourage her but she goes to breakfast & After-school club so we have v limited time during the week..
What's the minimum she should read per night?

Depends on the book. We aim for 10 minutes a day if they don't want to do more and haven't already finished in 2. Don't guilt trip if some days it doesn't fit in though.

At school we work on 20 mins a day that could be a mix of being read to and her reading. Both are important for modelling the sounds and intonation of the words on the page.

Thanks. I read to her every night & over the summer instead of her always reading separate books to me we have alternated paragraphs, but now she's back at school biff, kipper & chip it is.
I have to say the current book about child evacuees during the war, bombing & air raids is one of the more interesting ones we've had.

Haven't your yr 1 team told you? Our teams always do. We always have a 'meet the teacher' evening where they go through all the staff for that year, the plans, and when pe is, and when homework needs to be handed in, and how much reading - 10 minutes is the aim, etc.
Do you not get told all this?

We were advised to get them to read to us 10 minutes a day even from reception. It's better now in year one as we get a couple of books at a time. Page number wise -however many in 10 mins so depends on the book
We read to him for 30 mins every evening.

We are told 10 mins a night and no more than 20. I manage 15 mins about 4 days a week on ave. the number of pages doesn't matter as ny the end of year one, it could just be 4-5 if the book is very long and they are tired.

Our school says 15 minutes for KS1, and 20 minutes for KS2 daily.
But I never really paid attention to the length of time.
When books were shorter, you may finish in 5 minutes. Then talk about it after wards.
When ds started reading chapter books, we done 1 chapter or 2 chapters depending on length.
I think continuity of doing regularly is more important than how long. And we skipped reading if we were too busy.

We do 15 minutes each a night at the moment. We only do a few pages with DS though as, although his actual reading is very good, his comprehension needs a lot of work so I'm concentrating on asking him questions and discussing the story.

DD is in Year 1. She reads her school reading book to me each night which probably takes about 10-15 minutes, and then I read to her at bedtime with DD also looking at the book & sort of reading along.

We don't have the Kipper, Biff & Chip books at our school though. DS2 used to have them - I find myself missing them in a strange sort of way .

DS just started year 1. We aim for one 24 page level 6 biff and chip book a night but in reality its probably ends up at 4-5 times a week). We don't ready much to him though.
