Sheffield primary schools

Hello everybody! I am looking to move to Sheffield ASAP!! The thing is I have no family or friends who live there so I am clueless as to what to do ( I will be going to Sheffield uni next September hence the move). Can anyone give me any advice about good schools and best areas to live, I will be renting and most likely housing benefit to begin with so not too expensive! I have a 4 and 5 year old :) Thank you for any help!!

Most Sheffield Uni students live in Broomhill, Crookes, Walkley, Banner Cross and Hunters Bar. These have good primaries but are expensive areas to rent in. In your position I'd look at Meersbrook, Norton and Woodseats, checking the school catchments against potential rental properties (council website will help with this). You'd have further to travel to uni from these areas but housing is cheaper and they are family friendly areas with shops, parks, swimming pools etc.

Walkley is the only one I can comment on. GCs there for years now and it's been great.

I would recommend S10 and S11 areas to live. There are a good range of schools in those areas, and you will be close to the university.

will you be eligible for any of the university accommodation?

Hi 101waystoworry I don't know if you're still looking but I'd recommend staying away from s10/s11 as they're just so expensive ! I'm currently studying at the uni of and recently moved out of that area as ne and my husband couldn't afford it. I'd say s6 (Hillsborough ) is great as it's 10-15 minutes on the tram to uni and is actually quite nice area with good shops and lovely huge park. Alternatively heeley and sharrow also have good links to the uni but are more urban. A 2-3 bed terrace rent will be about £550 a month in any of these places . Hope it helps

Meersbrook has a good primary school, is a pleasant family area around the park and has good transport links. You may be able to get a good 2 bed house in a very pleasant area or three bed in a slightly less desirable area, eg S8. Depends what you want. Sheffield has lots of parks and my top tip is to try and live near one. Some houses may only have back yards.

The top Sheffield Primary schools based on Sats results as listed by The Times are: Oughtibridge, Totley, Greengate Lane, St Marie's RC, St Thomas of Canterbury RC, Colt, Meersbrook Bank, Stocksbridge, Mosborough, St Mary's RC. Not sure where all of these are and you will need to see if any schools have places in the area you may wish to live in, or if you qualify to get in them (RC).
