My DD'S are in yr one

they have often said that after pe they have gone out at play time in their PE Kits

The other day they did PE outside, but were allowed to wear their cardies

It was just above freezing for most of the day, was about 2 degrees

Their legs muct have been so sore, it was bitterly cold out

Then as it was play time straight after PE, they went back out in their PE kits

I know they are doing pe so you could say they will be warm, but they are only 5 so not as if they are doing enough excercise to keep warm

I wouldnt go outside in my shorts so why should they

I think it is awful. what do you think?

Do your young chidren have to go outside with bare legs when it is bitterly cold?

Thanks

But did they complain their legs were cold, or did you just assume they were cold because yours would be ? ds1 wore shorts out of choice year round when he was in reception, and lots of the girls prefer socks to tights and look really cold to me in their skirts but seem quite happy. I have put ds2 shorts away and hide his gym shorts or he would wear them at weekends. My dh wore shorts to school in Newcastle until 11 and remembers being in the snow in them, also cross country in the snow - just means his legs never get cold now!

i teach 10yr olds. i think its far too cold to have done this. i wouldnt do it with my clas and they're much older.

ps i wouldve done oudoor PE if they were doing cross country or something equally active- alot of games involve waiting around for your 'turn'. would def get them to change, though.

our infants (reception, yr1 &2) dont do PE outside except in the summer.

Our Primary school (year3-6) were told to wear tracksuits for outside PE last week.
If they dont have any they are told to wear their school jumpers.

Not sure I'd be happy about yr1 doing PE outdoors in this weather.

wotzsaname · 28/01/2007 23:03

think this is not on, but maybe ask if they can wear tracksuit bottoms and tops over PE kits.

At a school down the road from me the boys have to wear shorts for school (not trousers) until yr6. Ok they can be longer than PE shorts, but whats that about.

I don't think I would be upset about it. Did they tell you they were cold? Sometimes I think we are really raising a load of mamby-pambies, when my mum grew up, she washed in cold water every morning for her entire childhood, they rarely had socks or proper coats and it didn't do her one bit of harm. God, having a bit of a Phython momment over here.

My ds4yrs is like LizP's,he would wear shorts all the time if he could,I have to hide them.

I wouldn't mind them going out to play in shorts if they had jumpers and coats on aswell, and crucially,if they said they were warm enough.
If any of the children were complaining of feeling the cold I think they should definately have been allowed to put there proper clothes.

DDs school insist on her having a navy tracksuit for outside PE in the winter.

If I were you I would stick one in their PE bags and say that you ahve told them to wear it if it is cold.

I cannot believe a school would have a problem with it.

anniebear · 29/01/2007 19:33

yes, I think they should be allowed to wear track suit bottoms
