Just curious as to other parents experiences.

Did your school report your child's score or just advise if the have met the national standard?

Louw1988 Was your DD given appropriate help for the screening check? Like the words copied into giant type? Or just made to struggle on?

sirfredfredgeorge I'm not sure tbh but I'm going to ask on Monday. Her phonics are a little behind so i think the score represents her though
It's a shame cos you can see when she's reading she really doesn't enjoy it, her eyes are constantly blurry and tired
Oh well she comes off the drops hopefully next month so year 2 she should have a better year :-)
My mil is a teaching assistant (at a different school) and she told me ages ago not to be concerned if she doesn't meet the expected so I'm not going to worry too much

She got excellent and expected in it, science, pe and re so it's just when pen and paper are concerned ;-)

Louw my son had patches for a while and really struggled reading with them. They've worked brilliantly and as soon as they were off he FLEW...he was a few levels behind his brother but they're both on the same now.

EarthboundMisfit My dd wouldn't wear her patches (6 hours a day and she wouldn't wear them at school) so we had to try these drops which she has every sun, tues and thurs which diluate her better eye
Since the drops her eyes have gone from 4 lines apart to just 1 so massive improvement but it means her better eye is basically out of action permently :-(
She's on a learning plan and going well but obviously just below the expected level

She uses delaying tactics to not finish her work apparently Blush

We had that experience too, but he's much more focused now so hopefully it will help! He was lucky in that two others in his class also wore patches, otherwise he'd have refused I'm sure. Good luck.
