Hello, my nearly 8 year old DS is going on his first residential school trip to a residential activity centre. We know wellies needed, swimming, kayaking, etc (Gulp!). It may sound daft but what bags do kids take? 1 big bag? A suitcase? A weekend bag and a ruck sack? Any hints tips or wisdom welcome! Thank you x

Just to say to everyone that DS survived and had a great time. He came home smelly, with a disturbingly small amount of shower gel used! Wink I sent him with a wheeled suitacase which most of the kids did in the end - only his was small in comparison, but still was fine. He did get very wet! They had to jump in a lake whilst heading for the kayaks. Fully clothed. Shoes and all. (to be fair the school said no jeans due to the weight of them when wet). I was glad not to have seen this bit as I might have had a wobble. However I think DS brought have the lake back between his toes! Anyway MidniteScribbler I think the teachers have earned a bottle of wine! Thank you again to everyone who posted. Really appreciated your thoughts, advice and reassurance.

Haven't they sent a list?
he fist thing the kids have to do is haul their suitcase up the drive and upstairs and along corridors to the sleeping quarters,. A small wheeled/easily- carried bag is best.
DD recently went on a week's residential with a cabin-compliant bag. Others had bags twice as big

Glad your ds had a great time. I think cases makes it easier to find things especially compared rucksacks with a relatively small opening at the top. Getting soaked does at least force a change of clothes - it seems it is not uncommon to find boys in the same clothes they went away in with everything else still nicely folded in their case!
